Hire a HorsemasterWhen traveling your horse there are 3 things you should be looking for
It can be difficult to find someone with the right combination to transport your horse, Raoul McKay,Owner/Horsemaster![]() This quote sums up Raoul and his career in the horse industry. His career has seen him hold a variety of positions within various sectors of the horse industry, from starting and re-educating young horses to being involved in the preparation of elite thoroughbred racehorses. His earliest memories are riding ponies and horses for his father, who himself was an excellent horseman having trained many winners in his time. He then got bitten by the rodeo bug and spent most of his spare time getting on bulls and bareback horses, when not starting and re-educating horses across a range of disciplines. He spent time working has a horse breaker for Twynam Pastoral Co and Glen Keiri Quarter Horse Ranch, spent time as a horseback tour guide with Packsaddlers in the Blue Mountains and taught horse industry skills at TAFE. Raoul has worked with some of the greats of the Australian Racing industry. The list of trainers that Raoul has worked for reads like a who’s who of Australian racing, Gai Waterhouse, Bart Cummings, Rod Craig, Vic Thompson Jnr and Brian Mayfield-Smith. Raoul himself was a successful trainer in his own right having a small but successful team based at Kembla Grange. Raoul’s speciality is young or inexperienced horses. His quiet confidence and understanding the psychology of the horse gives him the ability to do things with horse that others only dream of. He has never had a problem loader, in fact he refuses to use the term, he has only had horses that didn’t understand what was being asked of them. In his quiet way he explains to the horse what is expected and the horse does what is expected. Recently, Raoul was asked to transport a horse from Sydney to Brisbane. Two other companies had tried unsuccessfully to load the horse and even the owner was not confident of having the horse transported. Raoul spent 48 mins loading the so called ‘unloadable’. Raoul spent the next 3 days of the journey loading and unloading this horse at every opportunity so that by the time this horse arrived at his destination it was taking 48 seconds to load. It is this willingness, and ability, to educate a horse that makes Raoul that ‘special horseman’. It is this care, dedication and experience that makes Raoul the ultimate professional in horse transport. Rebecca McKayOwner and Administration |
